SPRING has officially SPRUNG here in Kentucky! We are so happy to welcome in the warmer weather and all that accompanies it: barbecues, flip flops, camping, and just fun in the sun! We hope that those of you living in other parts of the country can say the same.
Spring is a good time to get away for the holidays and to vacation. You want your home to be safe while you’re gone, though. Here are some helpful tips to give you peace of mind while you’re travelling:
1. Lean on Friends
Ask your friends or neighbors to keep an eye on your house while you are away. Having someone pick up your mail shows activity at your house while you are not there.
2. Stay off of Social Media
Don’t tip off criminals to your whereabouts on Facebook, Twitter, etc. You are announcing to the world that you are not home.
3. Lights Off
Don’t leave your lights on the entire time you’re gone. That is a sure sign that there is abnormal activity at your house, and a good way to increase your electric bill!
4. Spare Keys
Remove the spare key you may have hidden under the door mat or that fake rock outside. If someone knows you are not there, that just makes entry much easier.
Unplug your small appliances to protect from power surges, as well as to save power. Most appliances utilize power even when they’re turned off, but still plugged in. We would even suggest turning your water off if you will be gone an extended period of time. You never know if that leaky faucet could get worse.
All of us at Blaze Products hope you take time to relax this spring and enjoy your family and friends! But, be safe and take precautions – you just never know!
